Business that rely on their Internet connection for time sensitive applications such as Voice over IP, Citrix or Terminal Server can occasionally be hindered by the oversubscribed nature of broadband.
Internet services delivered over ADSL or SDSL are typically quoted with a ‘contention ratio’ which gives a value of how many times the backend Internet bandwidth is oversubscribed, and consequently when multiple users download data together they contend with each other for the same allocation of backend bandwidth, leading to a reduced performance for all users.
Another approach to contention ratios is to guarantee each user a minimum amount of guaranteed bandwidth even when the backend bandwidth is heavily congested. The guaranteed amount is typically far less than the maximum potential of their connection, but ensures that a baseline level of performance is available even during the busiest times.
All of Syscomm’s business connections offer a very low contention, business grade service which is generally suitable for most small businesses. However, in situations where a service like Voice over IP, or Citrix requires sustained, guaranteed throughput to maintain service quality there are connectivity products available which provide an un-contended, or dedicated 1:1 service which fully reserves and guarantees backend bandwidth for a customer connection.
Syscomm are able to offer Dedicated Internet Access on our SDSL and ADSL Annex M Broadband products, and throughout our portfolio of Leased Line connectivity services.
