From Ransomware to Recovery: A Day Inside IBM’s Innovation Studio

An exclusive gathering at IBM’s Innovation Studio brought together technology leaders, security professionals and resilience champions. united by a single question: when the worst happens, how fast can you recover?

What a fantastic day at IBM’s Innovation Studio.

Nestled on London’s South Bank with views of the London Eye, IBM’s state-of-the-art facility provided the perfect backdrop for an event built around a deceptively simple idea: that defending your data doesn’t have to be complicated.

This exclusive in-person event brought together technology leaders, security professionals, and resilience champions to explore how organisations can better protect, recover, and future-proof their data without the complexity.

Hosted by Syscomm in partnership with IBM, the day was designed to cut through the noise and deliver sessions that were practical, insightful and refreshingly clear.

The conversations were grounded in real-world challenges, focusing not just on technology, but on what it truly takes to reduce risk and recover quickly when it matters most.

We were joined by an outstanding line-up of IBM experts who made the sessions practical, insightful, and refreshingly clear:

Neil McGovern presenting

Neil McGovern kicked off with an in-depth look at IBM FlashSystem and IBM's 5-point plan.

Martin Bruce presenting

Martin Bruce explored how FlashSystem delivers a unified answer to today's cyber security risks.

Gerd Franke presenting

Gerd Franke showcased the powerful SARA assessment tool.

Innovation STudio Tour Highlights

Beyond the Boardroom

IBM’s Innovation Studio opened its doors to showcase the technology shaping tomorrow. The IBM Quantum System One stood gleaming in its glass case, a machine capable of processing information in ways that will fundamentally reshape encryption, security and computing.

For many attendees, it was their first time seeing a quantum computer in person.

Spot The Dog

An Unexpected Guest

Then there was Spot the Dog – Boston Dynamics’ quadruped robot, very much alive and roaming the studio floor. Equal parts fascinating and slightly unnerving, Spot brought robotics out of the abstract and into the room.

It sparked excited conversation about autonomous technology, AI-driven monitoring and the future of physical security: a reminder that the innovations discussed weren’t theoretical. They’re already here.

Throughout the day, the energy remained high. The discussions were interactive, the questions were thoughtful, and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Many attendees shared that they left with clearer direction, practical takeaways, and fresh ideas they could implement immediately.

Overall, it was a collaborative and forward-thinking day, and we’re excited to continue building on our strong partnership with IBM to deliver even more impactful events in the future.

Letter from our attendees

I really appreciated the invitation to attend the IBM Defending Your Data event. The latest statistics around ransomware and cybersecurity strongly reinforce just how important it is to stay ahead of emerging threats. Technologies such as immutable snapshots are becoming a logical next step for all sectors, including education. We often focus heavily on keeping threats out, but this event highlighted the equal importance of strong contingency planning, with the hope that it’s something you never actually need to use. It was well worth the trip. IBM and Syscomm were excellent hosts, and the insights shared were both relevant and thought‑provoking.”
